Here Are 10 Great Things to do in St. Thomas, USVI:

1. 🏖️ Magens Bay BeachMagens Bay is St. Thomas's most famous beach

— tropical plants and sea grape trees line the white sand before giving way to turquoise water, all surrounded by lush green hills. It's open 24/7, with entrance fees of $5 for adults (free under 12) plus $2 parking, applied between 7am–6pm. You'll find beach chairs, water sports rentals, a beach bar, and restrooms. Arrive early — cruise ship crowds arrive mid-morning and it gets busy fast.

2. Snorkeling at Coki Point / Coki Beach

For self-guided beach snorkeling, Coki Point is one of the top spots on the island — right off the beach with easy shore access to coral and marine life. The water is calm and shallow enough for beginners. Gear rentals are available on-site. It sits right next to Coral World Ocean Park, so you can easily combine both in one day.

3. ⛵ Day Trip to St. John

A 20-minute ferry from Red Hook brings you to the neighboring island of St. John, home to Virgin Islands National Park. Popular snorkel tour destinations via boat include Maho Bay for swimming with sea turtles, as well as Trunk Bay Beach on St. John — widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, with a marked underwater snorkel trail.

4. 🛥️ Boat Charter / Catamaran Cruise

You haven't fully enjoyed St. Thomas without boarding a boat at least once. Daily charters depart from Red Hook, Crown Bay Marina, or Charlotte Amalie Harbor. Popular stops include Buck Island's Turtle and Shipwreck Coves for snorkeling, Water Island's Honeymoon Beach, and even the waters of Virgin Islands National Park. Sunset dinner cruises are also a romantic option, typically featuring unlimited drinks and a food spread on a two-hour sail around Charlotte Amalie Harbor.

5. 🏙️ Charlotte Amalie

Charlotte Amalie is the largest city in the US Virgin Islands and one of the oldest in the Caribbean, founded in 1671 by the Danish. Historic buildings dating back to the 1600s still line the streets. Points of interest on a self-guided walk include Fort Christian, Frederick Lutheran Church, the St. Thomas Synagogue, Government Hill, Blackbeard's Castle, Main Street, and Market Square. US citizens enjoy a $1,600 duty-free allowance on jewelry, electronics, and spirits.

6. 🏰 Blackbeard's Castle

Perched on Government Hill above Charlotte Amalie, this 17th-century Danish watchtower is steeped in pirate lore and offers sweeping views over the harbor. It's part of a larger historic complex and pairs perfectly with a walking tour of the surrounding Government Hill neighborhood. For history lovers, the Pirate Treasure Museum nearby is also a hidden gem, with life-sized pirate figures, ancient artifacts, and interactive displays like lifting a silver bar from a shipwreck or decoding pirate messages with a cipher wheel. 7. 🍹 Mountain Top

The best view in the US Virgin Islands is atop St. Peter Mountain, known as Mountain Top. The scenery provides 360° views while overlooking both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, with clear sightlines to St. John, St. Croix, the British Virgin Islands, and even Puerto Rico. Entrance is free, and while you're there, try the world-famous banana daiquiri. Hours run 9am–5pm daily. Combine this with a stop at nearby Drake's Seat, the iconic overlook where the famous photo of Magens Bay is taken, with additional views of St. John, Jost Van Dyke, and Tortola.

8. 🚡 Sky Ride to Paradise Point

The Skyride to Paradise Point is a cable car that ascends to one of the best panoramic views in the Virgin Islands, with an exquisite steakhouse called PRIME at the summit. Tickets run about $25 for adults, $17 for children under 12. Hours vary based on cruise ship schedules, so call ahead. It's particularly stunning at golden hour before sunset.

9. 🐠 Coral World Ocean Park

Coral World Ocean Park sits at the tip of Coki Point Beach and offers unique interactions with dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles, and sharks at an underwater aquarium that descends below sea level. Visitors can also book a Sea Trek Helmet Dive to walk along the ocean floor. Hours are 9am–4pm daily; admission is $23.50 for adults, $13 for children. Great for families.

10. 🚤 Water Island Day Trip / Kayaking

Just a short ferry from Crown Bay Marina, Water Island is often called the 4th US Virgin Island. The day is best enjoyed by renting a golf cart to explore winding roadways past a WWII-era fort (Fort Segarra) and Honeymoon Beach. For a more active option, a kayak and snorkel adventure through Cas Cay offers a protected wildlife sanctuary with mangroves, calm flat water, and abundant birdlife — a quieter, less-touristy side of St. Thomas most visitors never see.
